Where  to find us in France?

 

 

At this moment, there are many ways of crossing the channel into France, by boat, by car (tunnel) or by plane.   This page is intended only as a help to those not yet familiar with the options available.   The way you cross depends upon,  where you are in the U.K,  how much driving you want to do (or not do as the case may be),  and how much you want to spend.   How much you spend on crossing the channel can be a minefield as there are so many different choices.  

 

Weighing up the different costs between the shorter routes on the ferries and the cost of fuel driving the extra distance or the opposite with the longer ferry crossing and the shorter drive to your destination in France isn't easy.  You can also of course cross into France by air and be within 24 / 45 minutes of us but then you need to hire a car and cannot take  much back as you have to stay within your baggage allowance.  For those of you who are really bad sailers there is of course the Channel Tunnel.

 

 

Karen and I much prefered when we lived in the U.K to start our holiday a day early and travel over during the day and spend a night in a french B&B and meet the french owners.   The next day is then a gentle drive enjoying the countryside  and arriving at our destination (after stopping at a village restaurant) fully relaxed.    This way you can possibly save some money on ferry fares by crossing on a Thursday and going back on a Sunday however I know that most holidaymakers like to arrive at their accommodation as soon as possible.
